Fasting in Islam, (known as Sawm (صَوْم) or Siyām (صِيَام), also commonly known as Rūzeh or Rōzah (Persian: روزه‎)), is the practice of abstaining, usually from food, drink, smoking, and sexual activity. During the Islamic holy month of Ramadan Sawm is observed between dawn and sunset when the evening adhan is sounded.

Is it correct to break my fast at the time of Adhaan or after I pray Maghrib? If this practice is wrong, do I need to perform any expiation or repeat all my fasts?

It is allowed to break your fast at the time of Adhaan of Maghrib. Although it is recommended to pray before breaking your fast. Recommended is not obligatory. You don’t need to repeat any fast.

Four years ago, I broke my Ramadan fast intentionally due to extreme thirst from biking in the sun, unaware it was a serious sin. Now that I'm Shia, I’m uncertain about how to address this past action. What steps should I take now?

Deliberate breaking the fast during the Month of Ramadan is a major sin which needs seeking forgiveness (Isteghfaar) as many times as we can as well as Qadha of that fas, with Kaffara of breaking the fast. Kaffara is either fasting two months or feeding sixty poor believers or freeing a slave (Which is not possible now a days).

Feeding sixty poor believers is by offering each of them a meal or 750 grams of food grains like rice or wheat or flour.

What are the consequences of engaging in unrepented sinful acts that require Ghusl? Is it mandatory to make up missed prayers and fasts? What should I do if I cannot recall the exact number?

When Ghusl is obligatory for any reason including sinful acts, it remains obligatory till Ghusl is been performed. All Prayers and fasts which were performed with out Ghusl must be made up as Qadha.

If you are not sure about the exact numbers of days or prayers , you must take the number which is confirmed and make it up. Making more days up is a precaution.

Is observing a fast mandatory before performing Ziyarah during the months of Muharram and Safar, as mentioned in a book on Ziyarah?

Observing fast is not mandatory just for Ziyarah, unless you have made a Nazr (Vow) to fast.

Do I have to redo all the fasts I made for my Kaffarahs, for breaking oaths, if they were not done consecutively?

The Kaffara if breaking oath is feeding or clothing ten poor believers but if you can not afford it, then fasting three days.

Will Allah accept your Dua if you make a sacrifice or engage in fasting for a year or 100 days?

Making a sacrifice or fasting or giving charity or supplicating or doing any noble act are very good and it makes the possibility of accepting our Du’a much more , but no one knows when and how Allah (SWT) will Grant us our wish because He Knows all past, present and future. We must submit to the Will of Allah and seek Him Mercy and never suggest on Him our own timings which might be harmful for us. We leave our needs and wishes to Allah (SWT) and request and supplicate to Him to Grant US’s the best which He Knows. No doubt, sincere worship and dedication have an effect on our supplication.

Can you explain this ruling in more detail, “A person who observes a Qadha for the fast of Ramadhan can break his fast before Zuhr”. Does this mean if I keep a Qadha fast, I can open my fast before Zuhr and it will still count?

If you are doing qadha' for shahr Ramadhan fasting, you are allowed to terminate your fasting and break-off from it, anytime in the morning, until zawal, or salat dhuhr time.

You are not allowed to break your qadha' fasting anytime after dhuhr. If you do, there is a kaffarah.

This is different to Mustahab fast, where you can break your mustahab fast anytime, before dhuhr, or after dhuhr.

Is my Ghusul, prayers, and fast still valid if there was a stain on my hand, which I remember being there before performing Ghusul and possibly preventing water from reaching the skin during Ghusul?

If you are sure that the stain preheated water from reaching to your skin, then your Ghusl is invalid. If you are not sure, then there is no harm in your Ghusl.

Is my fasting valid if I don't perform all five prayers?

Fasting is valid but not performing obligatory prayers is a major sin which leads to hellfire as we read in Quran (Sura 74, verse 42 and 43).

Is Kaffara still obligatory on a man who was masturbating while fasting, and while not intending to reach ejaculation, did accidentally trigger climax which led to ejaculation and caused his fast to be broken?

If he knows that his masturbating can lead him to ejaculation by accident, his act of masturbation is a sinful act and he has to pay Kaffara along with Qadha of the fast if that day.

If ejaculation happens completely unintentionally then no Kaffara.
