The Muttaqin Are Not Perfect - 30 Verses For 30 Days 4/30

Salamun alaykum, dear brothers and sisters, InshaAllah today we will continue with the fourth Tafsir clip and InshaAllah we will delve into the meaning of one of the verses of the Qur'an that is situated in the fourth Juz of the Qur'an. That verse verse is going to be verse 135 from Surat Ali 'Imran. This verse, of course, is revealed in the context of describing the muttaqin. Verse 133 says that Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala encourages the believers to work towards that heaven that has been prepared for the muttaqin, for those who are God-wary, for those who are considerate of the existence and the presence of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala.

And then the next two verses speak about who these muttaqin are, and in particular, I want to draw your attention to verse 135. He then says this: many times, of course, we have this understanding that the muttaqin are those who never sin. For example, the muttaqin are those who go through this life without ever making a mistake. The reality is that the Qur'an says no, the muttaqin are not those who never make any mistakes. Of course they are part of the muttaqin, but the muttaqin also consists of those who make mistakes, but when they make mistakes, they immediately come back and do Tawbah. And this is a very important characteristic.

We may not be perfect. You may not be the type of person who goes through, for example, all of Ramadan without making any mistakes. What matters, and what is important is when you do make a mistake, are you the type of person who just walks away and assumes like nothing happened? Or are you the type of person who comes back to do Tawbah immediately? This is why the verse says: "Wa alladhina, idha fa'alu fa'ishatan, aw dhalamu anfusahum" (3:135), and those who, when they do something wrong, or they do an injustice to themselves, they commit a sin. That means they committed injustice against themselves. "Dhakaru Allah" (3:135), immediately after committing the sin, they remember Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala.

"Fa staghfaru [Allaha] li dhunubihim" (3:135), and they asked for forgiveness. "Wa man yaghfiru adh-dhunuba illa Allah" (3:135). And who is it that will forgive the sins of a believer except for Allah? "Wa lam yusirru 'ala ma fa'alu wa hum ya'lamun" (3:135). And they are not the type of individuals who insist upon their sin. What does it mean to insist upon your sin?

The Hadith of the Imam says that insisting upon your sin means that you commit a sin and it doesn't cross your mind that now that I committed the sin, let me immediately go and do Tawbah. No. This person commits the sin and as the Hadith says: "la yuhaddithu nafsahu", he does not speak to himself, he doesn't cross, he doesn't let it cross his mind that he should now go and do Tawbah. But if he does do this, the Qur'an is telling us, this person is also within the group of muttaqin.

So, if we make mistakes and if we are not perfect, and none of us are, the important key, and important point to remember, is to immediately repent to Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, and the Mercy of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, and the love and affection of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, InshaAllah will be there to encompass us.
